  lovely historic pub and as many have said the beer is fantastic but oh dear the food although posh sounding is basic at best expensive for what it is and not that good My husband ordered whitebait started although plenty it was over cooked and bitter I had the muscles as a main course came with chips and rustic bread I only ate half the muscles as what ever they were cooked in was bitter tasting did not like the bread as no taste it would have been better just cutting of a chunk of an ordinary white loaf and the chips /french fries were cold I did not have the heart to ask the others in the party what they thought but all said will go again for the beer but not the food should add my husband ordered the steak and that was cooked as he liked but and this is a big but he left the rest and for my husband to leave his food is never heard pf the desserts were good but they were not home made just the normal mass produced offering must add here also the place could do with a good clean table was sticky I would like to have said this to the manager on the night but was stopped but my husband as he doesn't like a fuss and as he said we don;t have to eat there again and we wont I would give 1 star for the food 5 stars for the beer and atmosphere
